Pregnancy Massage Questions and Answers

Pregnancy Massage in Greenwich, Bexley, Woolwich, Charlton. Within the 1st Trimester 1-14 weeks

Pregnancy Massage has increased in popularity as more women and partners are realising the benefits and that pregnancy is a wonderful and joyous time. However, the changes that the body undergoes are dramatic and the hormone surges that take place do have an impact on a woman's physical, mental and emotional well-being.

The physical changes can bring about discomfort, but with regular Pregnancy Massage, this can work as a tool for you to manage these discomforts as the use of medical medicines during pregnancy is forbidden. Massage serves as a natural pain reliever, as well as being good for letting go of physical and mental stress. Pregnancy  Endorphins (Happy Hormones) are also released which go to both mother and baby.

What does Pregnancy Massage consist of?

Pregnancy Massage is a combination of Swedish Massage techniques combined with Shiatsu, Lymphatic Drainage and Deep Tissue Massage, but is also dependent on the needs of the individual client.

What type of oil or products do you use?

We use 100% natural vegetable oil for our massage based treatments.  Typically we use Grape seed, Almond or Jojoba oil.  We also use unscented bee's wax and both massage mediums are excellent nourishment for the skin.  This will be discussed with your therapist..

How will I be positioned?

Depending on the stage of pregnancy determines the positioning for massage.  Most 1st Trimester Clients are still able to lay face down on the Massage couch but will be adapted to side lying if preferred (due to sore breasts).
Clients in the 2nd Trimester are positioned normally in a side lying position with Pillows and Bolsters to support your changing shape; you can also lay in the semi-reclined position if preferred and if suitable for your body.
3rd Trimester Clients are placed in the side lying position as this is the most comfortable and safest position, or you can even be positioned semi-reclined.  This again is dependent on the Clients needs.

What equipment do I need to receive a home based treatment? Mother and Bump Massage supply all equipment for treatments which include:

  • Treatment table.
  • Oils.
  • Fresh and Clean towels.
  • Music.
  • Pillows and bolsters.
  • Health forms.
  • Exercise sheets.

All that we request is that you have a room large enough for set up, so our therapist may work freely around the treatment table.

What will a session involve?

The session will involve a Client Consultation, Breathing and Visualisation Work, Massage, Stretching, Exercise and an end of session review.  You may of course just have a deep relaxing treatment with none of the above. Mother and Bump aim to meet all your needs and this will be discussed with your Therapist so you get the best results from your treatment.
